Baltikums Bank Supports Latvia-Kazakhstan Investment Forum in Astana

May 23, 2015

On 20 May, the first Latvia-Kazakhstan Investment Forum was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, aiming to strengthen the economic partnership between the two countries and sketch out avenues for cooperation among entrepreneurs and professional organisations from Latvia and Kazakhstan.

“In the past few years, official dialogue between our two states has been growing more active, which is evidence of mutual interest. On the one hand, we perceive Kazakhstan as a successful, rich, intelligent country that knows how to use its resources. On the other hand, Latvia has its distinct advantage of an advanced, stable, reliable and lucrative business environment for its partners,” comments Dmitrijs Latiševs, Chairman of the Board at Baltikums Bank. “We have been active on Kazakhstan’s market for more than five years, we are interested in continued development of cooperation between the entrepreneurs in our two states. So we are glad to lend our support to activities of this nature,” Latiševs adds.

The first Latvia-Kazakhstan Investment Forum was opened by Juris Maklakovs, Latvia’s ambassador to Kazakhstan, and Iveta Grigule, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation on cooperation with Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. The Kazakhstani side at the international investment forum in Astana was represented by the Ministry for Investment of Development, the government of the city of Astana, the Kazakhstan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and representatives of the Astana-Expo 2017 international exhibition. Overall, the event gathered more than 150 heads of companies from a great variety of sectors – finance, manufacturing, research, mining, transport, logistics, and real estate. A large delegation of entrepreneurs from Latvia was also present at the forum. Baltikums Bank was represented at the forum by Zarina Dyussekeneva, the bank’s Client Relationship Director (CRD) for Kazakhstan.

The Latvia-Kazakhstan Investment Forum was organised by the Baltic-Kazakstan Economic Development Association, working closely with the Association of Economic Zones of Kazakhstan and the Association for Development of Small and Medium Businesses.

The Latvia-Kazakhstan investment forum took place on the eve of the 2015 Astana Economic Forum, which is taking place on 21 and 22 May and is one of the most notable economic events in Kazakhstan and the entire region, gathering more than 10,000 experts from 150 different countries.
