BlueOrange lending supports development in public transportation

February 08, 2018

Using a loan of 1.95 million euros from AS BlueOrange Bank and co-funding from the EU Cohesion Fund (CF), SIA “Jūrmalas autobusu satiksme” has purchased 14 new and environmentally friendly ISUZU CITIBUS vehicles with EURO 6 diesel engines. They will have lower fuel consumption and provide increased convenience to passengers on city routes.

“We are happy to see companies Jūrmala develop by implementing environmentally friendly public transport projects that residents really need. We are proud to have facilitated this kind of growth,” notes Dmitrijs Latisevs, Chairman of the Board at BlueOrange.

“Jūrmala is one of the first few cities in Riga to draw on EU Cohesion Fund support for the 2014–2020 planning period and make a big step forward in enhancing the public transportation infrastructure within its borders. As part of this project, JAS also will be buying two new electric buses,” comments SIA “Jūrmalas autobusu satiksme” member of the board Zigmunds Pavlovskis.

The buses meet the latest ecological and quality requirements, reducing air pollution within the city. From an operational standpoint, they will consume a lot less fuel than the current pool of buses JAS operates within Jūrmala.

The new buses are equipped with lowered floors and folding ramps to provide easier access for people with functional difficulties and parents with strollers, an audiovisual information system with real-time updates on routing and scheduling, an online video surveillance system with 360-degree view for passenger safety, and USB sockets for charging electronics. The new buses will be running routes in Jūrmala as of 12 February.
